Got TRICARE pharmacy questions? Learn how to get answers

By TRICARE Communications

Do you have a question about the TRICARE Pharmacy Program? For example, are you wondering how to find a network pharmacy? Or do you want to know if you have coverage for a prescription? This article explains whom to contact to get answers to your pharmacy questions.

Your point of contact depends on where you live or where you’re traveling. The TRICARE Pharmacy Program administrator, Express Scripts, administers most pharmacy needs for TRICARE beneficiaries in the U.S. If you live overseas, you’ll need to contact the overseas contractor, International SOS.

“You can make the most of your TRICARE pharmacy benefit when you know who to contact,” said U.S. Public Health Service Cmdr. Teisha Robertson, Chief, Pharmacy Integration Branch at the Defense Health Agency. “Your location and TRICARE health plan determine who you should contact for your pharmacy questions.”

When to contact Express Scripts

Do you live in the U.S. or U.S. territory including Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands? If so, Express Scripts can help with most pharmacy needs. Call Express Scripts at:
  • 877-363-1303 (U.S. and U.S. territories)
  • 877-540-6261 (TDD/TTY)

You can call them with questions about:

  • General pharmacy information. Ask about your drug coverage, managing prescriptions, and costs. Check the TRICARE Formulary to learn more about your medication.
  • TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery. Sign up for or manage your home delivery, including specialty medications through Accredo.
  • Retail network pharmacies. Get help finding a TRICARE retail network pharmacy.
  • Specialty drugs. Learn about the availability and coverage of specialty drugs.
  • Coverage limitations. Find out if your drug needs prior authorization, has a quantity limit, or any other coverage limitation before you get it filled.

Claims in the U.S.

You may need to file your own claim if you fill a prescription at a non-network pharmacy in the U.S. or U.S. territories, as described in the TRICARE Pharmacy Program Handbook.

At non-network pharmacies, you have to pay full price for your prescription drugs. Once you pay you must file a claim for reimbursement. Reimbursements are subject to deductible or non-network cost-shares and copayments. All deductibles must be met before reimbursement.

If you live overseas

Do you live overseas? If so, contact International SOS for your all of your pharmacy needs. You can contact International SOS using the country-specific toll-free number.

TRICARE For Life beneficiaries

In the U.S. or a U.S. territory, call Express Scripts for pharmacy help. If you’re overseas, call International SOS.

Only contact WPS Government Services with questions about your health benefit. WPS doesn’t administer the pharmacy benefit.
